The notable American TV star arrived in the country to participate in activities marking ‘‘The Year of Return, Ghana 2019’’. ‘‘Steve Harvey is in #Ghana. It’s so wonderful to see our brothers and sisters from the African diaspora making the journey to the continent. He is in town with his family and taking in the sights and sounds of Ghana. He even got a brand new outfit made by a local designer,’’ The Year of Return announced on its Facebook page upon his arrival. Steve Harvey and his family visited the ‘‘slave castles’’ in Elmina and Cape Coast to connect with their roots and perhaps have a sense of the torture and excruciating pain their ancestors where compelled to undergo during the slave trade. He took to social media to share moments of his visit to the ‘‘slave castles’’ a long with cations which read: “This was real pain I felt going back to Ghana’s slave castles…I could feel my ancestors on me… Powerful beyond words that I can explain. I encourage as many of you as possible to go HOME for your ancestors,” Harvey said in a post on Instagram. Social media user, Ohenenana Nana Wiafe Debrah, shared emotional photos of Steve Harvey and his family while they walked through the slave castles which housed hundreds and thousands of slaves in the then Gold Coast. ”The Year of Return, Ghana 2019’’, is a major landmark spiritual and birth-right journey inviting the Global African family, home and abroad, to mark 400 years of the arrival of the first enslaved Africans in Jamestown, Virginia.
